"I enjoyed this quirky but socially relevant movie. Some scenes represent Ali’s emotional and psychological struggles with the real dilemma of deportation. I particularly enjoyed the maze sequence representing a system founded on unreasonable expectations. The social commentary does not overwhelm the story of the relationship between the aspiring immigrant and the delusional crank. "
"i was so stoked to see this was avaliable to watch on the plane!! i’ve been NEEDING to see it since “my favorite shapes” rewired my brain. this deserves better than a plane watch for the precise spectacle that it is, but i still devoured it. julio torres is probably the most inspiring person to me atm. his vision was so ambitious but it feels uncompromised. he shows real frustrations of the world around us in creative ways that make us feel & understand his exact feelings but above all else, laugh. he tackled the concept of karen in his directorial debut. and somehow made her likeable!! julio is not messing around. thanks for an incredible ride. cannot wait to see what he gets up to next. " I really appreciate the creativity and direction from Julio Torres. It's original and it works the entire film. The acting was also pretty solid, especially its two leads. The deadpan kind of comedy that is sprinkled throughout the film is also a hit or miss. Cinematography was also one of the biggest stars in the film. The biggest flaw is the story, I was more invested in one half than the other and the execution was subpar. Solid film overall, but there was a lot left to be desired."
"What was supposed to be a comedy ends up being an annoying movie. The ambience and colors are beautiful, the story is simple, but the development turns everything into a pretentious movie with unnecessary allegories and exaggerated performances, we have a protagonist without expression and another protagonist extremely exaggerated, the tones of voice chosen for each are annoying to hear. A difficult movie to finish."
"Delightful, weird, but uplifting film. Highly recommend it for anyone that likes Los Espookys "
