"2.25⭐️ Between this fourth entry and Alien3 it’s as if someone could NOT have been trying any harder to gut this franchise. A3 was just dismal, depressing and weird AF. Why in the world would they change everything everyone loved about Ripley, take her tough mama edge away and turn her into a sad creeper? Then .. for anyone who might not have followed this series at ALL… huge SPOILER………
Kill. Her. Off ‼️ Only next to “resurrect” and make her an even more creepy hybridized clone?!! Mostly of course, fans knew this along with the rest of the world before ever seeing 3. At the time I skipped both films. Watching now I still fully expected this fourth entry to be terrible. Only how terrible?
VERY as it indeed turns out. I actually can’t decide which one is worse. Resurrection at least barely lands in the kinda so bad it’s good zone. But also really just bad. Bad acting, bad jokes, bad misogynistic male gaze tone and characters. Failed attempt at campiness? And THE silliest alien creature to enter this universe. Who thought that creature was a good idea?! Even so guess I’m going to have to give a smidge higher rating than A3 because there were at least a *few* interesting choices and some rather gripping scenes towards the end, including a cool underwater sequence. Plus Whedon’s script, though terrible, at least keeps things moving and well, laughable enough to slightly entertain and not be quite as tortuous as 3.
Regardless of the unfortunate gutting, and NO Ripley, I will continue on. Hopefully finally to get to Romulus. Which seriously better be GOOD. Gods know this franchise needs to be saved. Ok thank you for coming to my rant. Rant over 😖😂"
" To make up for the mistake of killing off Ripley. She is back as a clone and it’s just not the same.
Though it is growing on me. Winona Ryder is cute in the movie but not totally believable as an android.
The dialogue can be pretty bad too. This is also the most goofy and comical of the movies. Since Joss Whedon wrote the script."
"This is the movie I actually wanted to watch, I just watched Alien 3 to fill in the gaps and, you know what? I was absolutely right in wanting to watch this.
I described Alien 3 as mediocre, and Resurrection is the furthest thing from mediocre. It is a glorious trainwreck. Complete abject nonsense. This movie is undoubtedly worse than Alien 3 but I would MUCH rather watch it over and over again. If Alien movies can't be good again than they should be this."
"It's a fun flick -- hands-down the most ridiculous/popcorn/put-it-on-in-the-background of the series (AvPs excluded) -- which seemed primarily greenlit by the push for something contrary to the messy boredom of Alien 3. Unfortunately, it therefore lacks most of the heart and brains of its brethren."
