"A nice adaptation of the book of the same name set in a world where knights and technology exist together, as a new knight was about to given knighthood a tragedy strikes the kingdom sending the knight into the wind. Worth watching as the knight meets another who has been hated by the kingdom for untold years, they two form a bond in time to bring justice where lies and deception have grown!"
"On one hand, if what a very small, but super loud, group says is true, then this is the most woke movie ever made. Can I still say that here? On the other, if what they say is really true, than I’m woke as hell because I couldn’t love this movie more. I was crying and laughing in several different scenes, at the same time. Chloe Grace is simply beyond amazing in what is just such an originally written world. If this don’t win major awards, the fix is in. It’s July? Best movie I’ve seen this year. Metal!"
"nimona is SUCH a mixed bag.
things i liked: there's gayness inherently part of the plot and i think the first animated gay male kiss in a kids cartoon movie. there's a lot of emphasis on questioning authority and societal norms. the character designs are a bit samey (especially in their background figures) but very appealing proportion-wise. the animation on its own is good. the color palette is cool.
things i didn't: there's severe tonal issues and emotional whiplash from those tonal issues. nimona herself is pretty irritating and difficult to enjoy as a main character. the scene transitions are awkward and the comedic timing is off. because of the studio acquisition the film feels subtly unfinished, like it needed a sound design overhaul, fifteen minutes trimmed off what they showed us, and another five efficient minutes showing us the world rather than telling us about it. there's some REALLY awkward shot compositions.
wish it had gotten tweaked a little more, there was a lot of promise in that premise."
"This is a work of art. I should’ve watched it sooner. I can’t begin to imagine how much thought and time went into this. It had a great storyline and just the right amount of comedy, tragedy, and darkness. Overall, it was a vivid, engaging depiction of an excellent storm of creativity with some expressive animation. "
"Whatever your political beliefs, this movie at its heart is about a universal desire to belong in one's society. There's a freedom I think we can all appreciate in being one's self, but often that comes with the heavy price tag of sometimes being alone. I know there are other themes in the movie, but I find this to be the most significant. #fantasy #comedy #animation #netflix #lgbtqromance #be_yourself"
