"If I could live in middle earth, I absolutely would. Read the books in the early 80's and my favorite actor since 1985,Viggo Mortensen, is Aragorn. It's a win all around. "

That being said, this is still better than most movies I've seen, the imagination that went into visualizing all of these concepts never ceases to amaze me. The story, albeit slow at times, is wonderful. Even if the CG starts to slip up here, it's never painful to look at, like a lot of The Hobbit is. The Ent battle is such a cathartic moment, Jackson nailed the weakest part of the book"

It most successfully develops the vital idea of Tolkien's books, about the overwhelming physical toll and consuming nature of evil, and the choice to act courageously in spite of it — the sense of fear and loss that permeates every victory, the thin grotesque form of Gollum, a constant reminder of Frodo's path forward into the abyss, the vast vistas of natural beauty, each in their own way containing an implicit freedom, threatened by the shadowy, desolate, unnatural Mordor. Most notable however are the micro moments of connection - literal and otherwise - close-ups of bodies and hands exchanging invaluable items, holding friends in need, outstretched, waiting for lovers, embracing tools and extensions of duty, all sharing a common cause."
