"Quite a good yarn. Held my interest enough that I'll probably read the 2nd book. However, the characters haven't really grabbed me which is usually my main requisite to continue a long series. "

"I'll admit I deliberately ignored the hype on The Expanse (books and show) for awhile. Finally got around to reading it and understand why it is so beloved. It's a space opera with the central theme exploring how people react in the face of information (share, hide, deny, leverage for power). The characters are relatable and, of course, there are space battles, zombies, and aliens. I had a few late nights cause I couldn't put the book down!"

"If you're in it for the journey - for a nice long and plotty scifi thriller with not-so-far-fetched technology, politics, intrigue, space battle, excellent "world" building and character development, and a story you can really sink your teeth into - this is the book for you. If plots and subplots and super subplots and politics and strategy are really not your thing, I would give this one a pass."

"This wasn't jaw-droppingly great. But I have this feeling it will be. Miller of course was the star of the show. A down-on-his-luck cop who gets a glimpse of what life could be like with a crew to follow. But sadly Miller was the only one with adequate character depth. Though I did like Holden as well. It's always difficult to do the right thing while also following orders. But I respected Holden more for it and for the way his crew viewed his character. On the other hand, I didn't know much about any of the side characters so I couldn't find it in myself to care for them.<br/><br/>Though many things happened readers were still held from the bulk of the truth. So while getting bits and bits of information was slow going, even at the end, I still sense there is much more to be given. Unfortunately, the slow build is losing my interest but I want to trust in the process and continue. Something is just itching at the back of my mind.<br/><br/>Of course, human history will always repeat itself. Even with all the politics though this was easy to follow. But the world-building was difficult to decipher at times. I just wasn't blown away and I think it had a lot to do with character depth."

"The entire Expanse series caught me by surprise. Sci-fi doesn't generally thrill me, and I was leery about jumping into a new, large series. So glad I did! The world is interesting, the characters engaging, and the whole series is so achingly human, even when scenarios in the story aren't. I can't suggest this book series enough!"

"The beginning of a great story that spans 9 books and a set of Novellas. Interesting look at human kind after we’ve moved to space and colonized mars and the outer belts. Some of my favorite group of characters. Was truly a little sad when I finished the series and had to leave this world. Will absolutely read it again down the road. "

"Resident Evil in space, though more drama than horror. The characters are more rough than I'd prefer, but the main characters do hold your attention. Interested to see where this series goes, but its definitely not on my top favorites list. Enjoyable nonetheless. "
