"Genuinely suspenseful from start to end, I was impressed by this overall 5/5 horror/thriller. The dialogue is extremely well done and the plot is tied up nicely. Scary moments, moral dilemmas that you actually want to watch. I am extremely impressed by the performances of all involved, especially Hugh Grant. So much food for thought, so much to analyze and think about, but so entertaining to follow. Completely questions religion, but unlike so many other movies, it actually gives viewers a clear answer. I appreciate the small details in this (cinematography, music, references to pop culture) because it tied it together so well. I don't think I've seen another horror that makes me want to laugh and genuinely messes me up quite like this one did."
"WARNING: If you are someone who is very into your faith, i would consider not watching this. This movie makes you question your faith more than once.
I thought "Heretic" was very original. I personally loved how it makes not only the characters question their faith, but it makes the audience as well. The use of Monoply in this movie is done well, and provided a great visual for the concept that the antagonist is trying to get across. I also thought the acting was great and the storyline is thrilling! This is a movie that keeps you on your toes. Especially for me because my last name is "Barnes" 😅. I do think that there are parts of this movie that seem unrealistic. This would include: the lock system, the trust between the girls and him, and the overall arch to the end. I did personally LOVE that the ending leaves you with a question. It allows the audience to come up with their own ending, which I know some people probably won't like, but for me I thought it was done tastefully. Do I think it's the best horror of the year? No. But do I think it's worth a watch? Absolutely!"
"Two young female missionaries go to a man house who requested more information, but he has more sinister motives. They do an excellent job of building the tension. Once he reveals his intentions as the audience you are really on the edge of your seat to see how this plays out. He does challenge thier faith and what it is they believe. Or maybe he is trying to prove his point more than challenge thiers. There are some great monolouges delivered by Hugh Grant. Which I loved but it does make this a bit of a slow burn which may turn off some people. The issue this is more if a thriller mystery but not much of a horror. If you go into this expecting a full on horror you might be disappointed. As is this is an excellent thriller that is worth a watch. "Heretic (2024) is a psychological horror-thriller directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. The film follows two young Mormon missionaries, Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Sister Paxton (Chloe East), who, while proselytizing in a small mountain town, encounter the enigmatic Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant). Invited into his home under the pretense of a theological discussion, the missionaries soon find themselves ensnared in a perilous game of cat-and-mouse. Mr. Reed, initially charming and hospitable, gradually reveals a more sinister side, challenging the women's faith and beliefs through intense psychological manipulation. As the situation escalates, the missionaries must confront their deepest convictions to survive the ordeal. The film delves into themes of faith, manipulation, and the complexities of religious belief, offering a tense narrative that combines intellectual discourse with traditional horror elements. "
