Eight-year-old Kevin McCallister makes the most of the situation after his family unwittingly leaves him behind when they go on Christmas vacation. But when a pair of bungling burglars set their sights on Kevin's house, the plucky kid stands ready to defend his territory. "RE-WATCH: It’s been a while since I last saw this movie, but gee, Kevin’s family is A LOT meaner than I remember them being. Like I get sometimes he could be annoying to them but give the kid a break! He’s 8 years old for crying out loud! Besides the serious family issues going on in this film, I forgot how good the physical comedy is in it! Chris Columbus and John Hughes nailed it! Plus, the score is one of my favorites! Definitely my favorite Christmas movie, bar none!"
"With Home Alone, director, Chris Columbus, and producer/writer, John Hughes, combine warmth, physical comedy, and cartoony violence to create a holiday classic that induces giggles, tears, and vicarious cringing. It may lack the melancholic-turned-joyful authenticity of true Christmas greats; but what Home Alone lacks in realness, it makes up for in entertainment value. It is a hilarious and gleeful Christmas confection. Never deep, never heavy, and is never anything but exuberant family-friendly fun. The type of film that elicits peals of giggling from start to finish, Home Alone does not need narrative layers or sophisticated storytelling. It simply and joyfully entertains, and that is what makes it great."
