"This horror movie is very interesting talking about something that most don’t even want to look at or Acknowledge and the horrors that come from that, it was so bad they made a boogie man. I also think candyman has a Slick and cool look with an Attitude to match. Very good flick with a message even if it can be lacking a bit but I see what they are saying."
"Haven’t watched the original Candyman since I was a kid and I remember why. This dude you to scare the hell out of me lol he was so freaking creepy. The movie originality is on a different level. Nice October watch before I watch the 2021 version. #spookyseason "

"Not quite sure what to make of the Scary Black Man trope (a reviewer noted Todd’s costuming is very blaxploitation), but a LOT of this movie is on point.
The white woman who continues to crawl into clearly cursed places that her black friend tells her not to enter, and her recklessness rebounds onto black women.
I love that Todd was allowed to come up with his character’s backstory, and the legacy of lynch mobs still resonates today. Helen even notes that her black eye is what spurs the police to action, not black deaths. There’s also wonderful moments commenting on the state of gentrification in Helen’s refurbished apartment.
The camerawork is occasionally fascinating, really capturing the grime of broken toilets, Helen emerging from the monstrous mouth of a mural, and especially the overhead shots of Chicago streets in the opening credits—relevant because the characters later discuss their use in redlining districts.
I still think I prefer ‘the people under the stairs’ as my 90’s-era black horror, but this one is definitely interesting."
"Probably the original blatantly race and social classes based thriller. The film is a great stand alone thriller, as well as an oped about what it's really like to be non-white, living in a inner-city neighborhood. Based on the Clive Barker short story, "The Forbidden". The Candyman character makes a great inspiration for a costume, while the movie puts you in the Halloween mood! #Halloween #Thriller #Oct9"
