"Saw this at a drive in movie when it came out. It was so disturbing and made me sick to my stomach. Couldn’t believe it was a true story."

"One of my absolute all time favorites, and not just in the horror category. This film is boss af and *so* brutal. I loved that there were no well-known actors in the cast, it made it feel so damn real. The way they presented it as a true story, goddam* brilliant. Definitely one for the history books. If you don’t at least appreciate this movie, I feel that you don’t appreciate film as an art"
"Just decided to watch the original just to refresh my memory before I watching the new one on Netflix."

"1/10
Choices were made in the making of this movie and not a single one was good. The whole reason you turned the movie on doesnt even start until over 50 minutes into the movie. The characters are boring and unlikable. 4 of the 5 main characters are killed off in a matter of seconds. The last 20 minutes of the movie feels unscripted and many of the scenes go on for far too long. "
"I feel like when the one girl is screaming at the bones after barging into the house it's weird she mostly screams at animal bones. Everyone is annoying and whiny and screams too much. I can see why this is scary in the 70s and 80s but we don't get much beyond laughing "weird" people in Texas and that's supposed to be creepy and the screaming is supposed to be scary but this is more screaming than spooking."
"I don't rate this as high as it deserves due to its legacy and impact on horror and cinema as a whole, but this is still a great movie. While many younger viewers who have heard about the movie assume it's a gorefest, it really doesn't show much gore, and I watched it with the expectation of gore, so I was underwhelmed when it came to that aspect of the movie. That doesn't keep it from being a great movie. In fact, very few things are as disturbing as a person's own imagination, and what wasn't shown was more effective than what would have resulted from dated gore effects that likely wouldn't have held up over time. Parts of the movie were more uncomfortable than scary, though, but I think discomfort was a goal of the movie which was accomplished well. Still, it failed to meet my expectations, and that's okay for a movie that came out almost a decade before I was born. It deserves better sequels, but the movies it inspired solidify its legacy in cinema."
