Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, generally known as Frankenstein, is a novel written by the British author Mary Shelley. The title of the novel refers to a scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who learns how to create life and creates a being in the likeness of man, but larger than average and more powerful. In popular culture, people have tended to refer to the Creature as "Frankenstein", despite this being the name of the scientist. Frankenstein is a novel infused with some elements of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement. It was also a warning against the "over-reaching" of modern man and the Industrial Revolution, alluded to in the novel's subtitle, The Modern Prometheus. The story has had an influence across literature and popular culture and spawned a complete genre of horror stories and films. It is arguably considered the first fully realized science fiction novel.

"I this was a very interesting book. It reminded me of phantom of the opera in the way that the creature was hated for his looks and shunned by humanity. The difference is that after he was denied what he wanted he rampaged. He didn't wish to be good and normal and to be loved after his trials as Erik (from PotO) did. Erik was proactive, though was in the wrong. He would act with sly intelligence.. When the creature was denied happiness he wanted to cause suffering to his creator instead of finding some other life. I would say that the vocabulary of this book was annoying. For example the word "benevolence" was so overused it seemed to be used like 5 times a chapter. It was a good classic but don't think I would read again."

"This was honestly a better classic. It really picked up in the last 100 pages or so. I further like the morality or lack of within the characters which displayed true (and perhaps exaggerated) people. None of them appeared to be truly good. "
