Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, generally known as Frankenstein, is a novel written by the British author Mary Shelley. The title of the novel refers to a scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who learns how to create life and creates a being in the likeness of man, but larger than average and more powerful. In popular culture, people have tended to refer to the Creature as "Frankenstein", despite this being the name of the scientist. Frankenstein is a novel infused with some elements of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement. It was also a warning against the "over-reaching" of modern man and the Industrial Revolution, alluded to in the novel's subtitle, The Modern Prometheus. The story has had an influence across literature and popular culture and spawned a complete genre of horror stories and films. It is arguably considered the first fully realized science fiction novel.

"I this was a very interesting book. It reminded me of phantom of the opera in the way that the creature was hated for his looks and shunned by humanity. The difference is that after he was denied what he wanted he rampaged. He didn't wish to be good and normal and to be loved after his trials as Erik (from PotO) did. Erik was proactive, though was in the wrong. He would act with sly intelligence.. When the creature was denied happiness he wanted to cause suffering to his creator instead of finding some other life. I would say that the vocabulary of this book was annoying. For example the word "benevolence" was so overused it seemed to be used like 5 times a chapter. It was a good classic but don't think I would read again."

"First of all the fact Mary Shelley was 15 or 16 when she wrote this are you joking iconic the writing is so beautiful she created so much atmosphere sometimes classic get a little to much for me end up feeling like I’m reading gibberish but Frankenstein was pretty easy to follow and honestly unexpectedly funny The way she wrote Victor Frankenstein and his creation was really interesting i was watching a few videos on people dissecting all of the things and my favorite was you start to realize Victor Frankenstein is the real monster honestly like that man was just so unbearable at times If you want to get into classics I think this would be a fun one to start off with it's not to complicated I'm glad I got to read the original story of Frankenstein because l've watched so many adaptations of the story and it was nice to see where it all started"
