Lois Lowry
The third book in Lois Lowry's Giver Quartet, which began with the bestselling and Newbery Medal-winning The Giver. Trouble is brewing in Village. Once a utopian community that prided itself on welcoming strangers, Village will soon be cut off to all outsiders. As one of the few able to traverse the forbidding Forest, Matty must deliver the message of Village's closing and try to convince Seer's daughter Kira to return with him before it's too late. But Forest is now hostile to Matty as well. Now he must risk everything to fight his way through it, armed only with an emerging power he cannot yet explain or understand. "Told in simple, evocative prose, this companion to The Giver and Gathering Blue can stand on its own as a powerful tale of great beauty." --Kirkus (starred review) Messenger is the masterful third novel in Lois Lowry's Giver Quartet, which includes The Giver, Gathering Blue, and Son.

"Probably my second favorite of the Giver quartet. The plot and story line tied the first two stories together nicely. Lowry uses great descriptive language to describe the scenery without going too far. This book, while the smallest of the three was the hardest to put down. "

"definitely better than the other books but I didn't like the ending. I don't think Matty's sacrifice was worth his life. I liked hearing of the past characters from the other books though."

"I am mad at the ending but loved the story. I was seriously rooting for Matty and Jean’s reunion. The characters seem so real in this series. Incredible craftsmanship in characterization and setting."

"This book ties everything just together so beautifully, this series in general I feel like I can always reread. All concepts are just explored so beautifully, the immersion in this book is great."

"This book is so amazing. But it does not get enough credit. I have read this book maybe 4 times and it never gets old. I don’t want to say much more cause spoilers, but please read it. "
