To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished. When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.

"So much better than the first book in that the plot was even more captivating and the writing was better, but Jude's narration still annoys me at times though less so than before. Seeing that this second installment actually is better than the first gives me hope for the third one being at least a four star read. 3.5/5 👑"
"As Jude gains power her feelings for King Carden grow even more so, although not by choice. An addicting second installment to this series how can you want someone you hate so much? As Betrayals, love, and revenge collide will everything Jude has worked for crumble or can a frail human rule the fae kingdom!"
"This book was even more of a rollercoaster then the last. And honestly I want to read the whole thing from Cardan's POV. Most of the characters are awful in every way, and while it does make me incredibly frustrated it also makes the book that much more interesting. Honestly my only complaint is the lack of romance but maybe that's the point"
"most people say this one is better than the first. i disagree, but i still thoroughly enjoyed it. here are my pros and cons. pros: my attachment to the characters kept me hooked throughout the book, the world-building was maintained and lots of references were made to the first book, and (as if reforming my criticism of the last book) this was highly edited and sped through plot. now, cons: the editing made some of the writing choppy and jumpy to the point i didn’t know where we were or i was left wanting more explanation, the wonderful character dynamics i loved most about the first novel fell short in this one as most of the relationships and conflicts remained the same, and, for a book named wicked king, we don’t see much of the king nor is he wicked save for a twist (love the mc tho just confused on the title). i don’t regret reading the book but i think i’ll wait before reading the next one. 7/10"
