Stephen King
The #1 New York Times bestseller and “frightening” (The New York Times) thriller from master storyteller Stephen King about a clairvoyant man who must weigh his options when he sees the terrible future awaiting mankind. When Johnny Smith was six years old, head trauma caused by a bad ice-skating accident left him with a nasty bruise on his forehead and, from time to time, those hunches…infrequent but accurate snippets of things to come. But it isn’t until Johnny’s a grown man—now having survived a horrifying auto injury that plunged him into a coma lasting four-and-a-half years—that his special abilities really push to the fore. Johnny Smith has come back from the void with an extraordinary gift that becomes his life’s curse…presenting visions of what was and what will be for both the innocent and guilty alike. But when he encounters a ruthlessly ambitious and amoral man who promises a terrifying fate for all humanity, Johnny must find a way to prevent a harrowing predestination from becoming reality…

"Honestly this book is just really good. It kind of inspired a lot of things that shaped me and made me who I am. Not the book itself but the things that were inspired off of this book. And for that I have to thank King he did something that truly altered me for a long time in my life."

"The place where Johnny “goes” (the Dead Zone) is not really explored but I wanted to know if this is the same place as Bool from Lisey’s Story & the macroverse from It & the place in The Talisman which I think is the same place in The Dark Tower series."

"This is my favorite Stephen King book I’ve read so far, I love the complex structure of subplots and how they all connect and intertwine with each other so seamlessly. I feel a ton of sympathy for the protagonist who really does capture your heart and who’s tragic fate you can’t help but feel for. The “gift that’s really a burden” hits you hard in this novel. I loved the political themes as well as the tragic romance. Really just a fantastic book. If you want a science fiction horror book, I would highly recommend this. 28/30 "

""Some things were better lost than found."<br/><br/>3.5⭐ - I liked most of The Dead Zone. I feel like it ended up going in a strange direction. I listened to the audiobook, and I got confused at some times - that may just be because I was listening instead of reading. I think I enjoyed the first half of the book more than the second. I guess I was expecting horror based on the title of the book, but this is definitely more of a drama. Johnny's story is quite tragic, and it's sad that everything got so messed up for him when he didn't even really do anything wrong. Overall, I wish there would have been a little more action. It's not a bad book at all, though; it's just not a favorite. I always appreciate King's ability to write controversial protagonists that you still root for."

"My first King book I ever read. Read it at the age of 10 and never stopped reading King after that. It’s a really good read. "

"This book was good when I read it back in the nineties but was almost prophetic when you look at the last few years in the US."

"This book was also really great. I really love Stephen King's work but this especially was just incredible. I think the things that stuck with me the most were the finding's of Frank Dodd and the assassination at the end. Sarah & Johnny forever."

"Fun, but ultimately fairly forgettable, novel. I think focusing on one plot line, rather than the three, in greater detail would have been more interesting and fulfilling read."

"This book really kept me reading, I spent the whole book wondering what would happen next. Johnny's character was just so nice. The epitome of nice guys finish last. It has that stephen king scifi feel, I loved the whole Castle Rock mystery, but the ending was kind of a dud for me. Felt a little like the book spent all this time building to an ending that it just kind of gently set down. It was good, and it definately satisfied the need for an ending with a little action, I was just expecting more."

"Shockingly prophetic, which is ironic considering the subject matter. I couldn't believe how old this book was with how relevant it seemed to the current political landscape. I would not call this book action-packed by any stretch of the imagination. It's a bit of a slog to get through. However, it is still interesting enough to keep me reading until the end."
