"Robert mitchum’s villainous character is so creepy and menacing in this suspenseful thriller. This original is far better than the remake, sorry Scorsese but you goofed. Gregory peck vs Robert Mitchum, perfect good guy , bad guy. I still cannot believe Robert Mitchum didn’t win an Oscar for his role in this."

"Mitchum makes a really good villain here and casting Peck as his opponent works quite well. Not as explicitly violent as the remake, but this version Is a lot tighter in execution and has its own atmosphere of dread and suspense."
