"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 rewatch one of my favorite movies of the 2000s. Still good but I see it a bit differently now. I still relate in a way to the judgement of banal conformity, teen angst and aimlessness and the hard choices to make in growing up without losing the essence of who you are but I’m a lot older now and it’s a little more irritating 😂. But I miss that wry humor of the time and the commitment to authenticity we had that could be traced back to 60s/70s counterculturism & 80s eccentricity. "
"IT WAS A... movie. I didn't really get into it. I believe it's a movie about some teens who just graduated High School finding out who they will become in life, but I just took it as some teens pull a prank on a older and lonely man. I just ended up feeling bad for Seymour the whole movie. #TeamSeymour or #TeamDoug"
"I’m not kidding when I say this made me laugh out loud at all the wry quips and unmistakable dark humor. Enid is the type of character that sees through the world and all the BS. She is lovably deadpan and rivetingly irreverent and to be protected at all costs. I love her art nerd style and every inch of her eccentricity. Without a doubt, she’s the definition of instant cult classic.
One of her additional greatest superpowers is how drenched in sarcasm she is, complete with a brimming over side of lively wit.
This story comes to be about the difficulty of growing up and becoming who you genuinely, authentically want to be. But it’s also not afraid to laugh at itself and not take itself too seriously, which all in all is a delightful combo. The tragic and the more lighthearted mix and make a profound statement on what makes art, as Enid dabbles in different art forms, and people great and original, but also darker and more somber. I love the tragedy and the beauty of this with all my heart."
