"While it offers a unique premise and showcases Ryan Reynolds in a distinctively dark role, it falls short in its execution.
The film's exploration of mental illness and the perspective of a protagonist with severe psychological issues is intriguing, but it often descends into gratuitous violence and gore. This tonal inconsistency makes it challenging to engage with the story or its characters.
Ryan Reynolds gives a commendable performance, juggling both the affable and sinister sides of his character, but the supporting cast and characters lack depth and fail to leave a lasting impact. The film's attempt at dark humor is hit or miss, and the overall narrative feels disjointed.
Moreover, The Voices tries very hard to be funny at parts but just falls flat. The humor often feels forced, making it difficult to connect with the film on an emotional level.
It feels like a missed opportunity to delve into the complexities of mental health and the fine line between reality and delusion. While it has its moments and showcases Reynolds' range as an actor, it's a film that may leave you more perplexed than entertained."
"Weird, entertaining movie. Definitely doesn’t do any favors with its portrayal of schizophrenia, but it’s a pretty old movie so it’s hard to judge it by today’s standards. Ryan Reynolds was great in this; you can definitely see snippets of Deadpool in his performance (which is funny because Deadpool actually hears voices in the comics!). Anna Kendrick killed it, and if you’ve seen Twilight it’s really funny to watch her play basically the same role in this movie. The director made a lot of fun, creative choices that helped keep the momentum of the story going strong. Overall, good for a movie night! Just wish the ending had been a little more clear. "
