"There are so many things about this movie to love: the extremely creative plot, the symbolism, the acting, the direction (especially the music and cinematography). This is just a great movie!!! All of the moments where Gloria and Oscar are on the playground were so cinematic and even though you couldn’t always see the destruction they wrought, Anne Hathaway’s reactions to Jason Sueikis’ actions and the sound of screams made it so surreal and visceral. SPOILER ALERT: The final confrontation scene of Gloria in Seoul was especially badass. I also loved seeing Joel’s reactions to Gloria saving everyone from Oscar. In regards to the other characters, I wasn’t sure how I felt about Tim. Sometimes I felt he wanted the best for Gloria, other times he was a jerk. I’m sure Gloria can do better than all of the men in this movie. The one thing I didn’t like about this film was the explanation as to why Gloria and Oscar were able to manifest into a monster and giant robot in Seoul. Ok, Oscar destroyed her school project and her anger at him caused them both to be struck by lightening which gave them massive alter egos that just happened to look like their respective toys??? Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, BUT I forgive it because the movie was just that good. "
"The synopsis on this doesn't do justice and I think misses the point a bit. To me this is a film about alcoholism, the damage a person inadvertently does, and about figuring out which people care about you vs the ones want to hold you back and keep you as part of their dependency... It's the fight to regain control and break away from the cycle of forming codependent relationships and more - all set to a kaiju flick. #underrated #underappreciated #underanalysed #kaiju #codependency #alcoholism "
