"This was cute and kind of sweet, but it was humorous at most, not funny. The message was well meant and the acting wasn’t bad, but my main problem with the film derived from the dialogue. It was so cringey and none of it sounded like ANYONE would organically say it in real life. It felt like a caricature of a black woman’s everyday and (maybe it’s not my place to say) it felt forced and a bit performative and patronizing."

"I've been waiting awhile to see this movie. It finally came to Netflix and I have to shut it off for it's transphobia 🙄"

"I understand why it was a big deal when it initially came out. The casting is fantastic, and I’m so proud of Marsai. However, there were definitely some parts of the plot/script that didn’t and probably won’t age well. "

"This movie tried WAY too hard. The acting wasn’t terrible but the dialogue felt inorganic and very forced. It came across too ‘this is what a successful angry woman looks like’ and was sooo cringe 😬 The Hail Mary was Issa Ray who brought some much needed humor and broke up the whole mean, controlling vibe. It was a poorly executed version of 13 Going on 30. Sorry, but this needed a lot more black girl magic to be saved.
