"This is an excellent portrayal of a French composer that I never knew about, Joseph Bologne. This incredible film shows how he fared in the court of Marie Antoinette, and what happened to his marvelous operas and composition. The acting is good, and I am so happy to know about this talented French African man who unfortunately was marginalized by history."
"This was not what I completely expected (I’m not sure what I expected) but I was very pleased with the story and learning about Joseph and his life and the classical music he composed being in the same time as Mozart was wonderful. But as a lot of ‘certain people’ overlooking history or trying to erase history of other people likes to do (by not acknowledging poc can have talent too), we didn’t end up hearing about him or his music until recently. I’m glad they could portray a little bit of what I feel when it comes to being born of two races. It’s very hard to feel like you can belong in both. You end up feeling like you can’t be part of either one."
"I tend to like movies about historical figures I knew nothing about this historical figure and it turned out to be one of my favorite movies I've seen in the last several years."
