"Pretty solid horror movie. I found the beginning pretty jarring how quickly the main action of the film started, but it was pretty apt to how quickly a virus like that would take over the world in real life. The cast of characters was great but to be honest, I didn’t catch most of their names so I wasn’t emotionally attached to them. I like Ana, Michael and Ken though which you’re kind of supposed to. I didn’t like CJ, but I enjoyed his redemption arc at the end. It was also super fun seeing Ty Burrell as an unlikable character. I’m so used to seeing him as Phil Dunphy that watching his performance as the selfish jerk Steve was refreshing. Besides the acting, I’ll be completely honest, I’ve never been a big fan of Zack Snyder’s directorial style. It felt too much like a movie that knew it was a movie? I don’t know why, but it just felt very surface level. Last but not least, the baby scene was disgusting and kind of unnecessary. Like I get what he was going for, but did we really need to see a CGI undead baby? Ignoring those critiques, I did enjoy myself and did find myself entertained by this film."

"I think this movie has one of the most effective first acts of a zombie movie ever! The rest of it is pretty good too but if you want a excellent example of zombie horror it’s the very beginning of this movie..it almost could stand on its own as a little short film. But the rest of the movie is still worth watching and it think is a really good remix of the original. Im not the biggest fan of Zach Snyder I find him to be cheesy and overblown most of the time…but when he’s on his A game he can really make something pretty special and wholly unique. I consider this part of that A game."

"So I decided to Day 1 of Horrortober and first on the calendar is the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. Idk if I had low expectations because it was a remake so that elevated the movie or maybe this is just a great remake. I was pleasantly surprised by how good this was. I also noticed the similarities between other zombie films/tvshows. I’m a big fan of zombie stuff and seen mostly everything there is. It’s not 28 days later good but it’s okay for it’s time. Great start for Horrortober "
