"Great movie"

"This is a rewatch after many years, having originally watched this (and the sequel) with my older sisters as a child. A wonderful trip down memory lane that still holds up remarkably well, it has surprisingly struck a far stronger emotional chord for me than I expected this time around watching as a man in my 30s now (mainly due to self esteem issues I’ve dealt with for much of my life and how I could relate to the main character in that regard). This is actually a surprisingly great story of self acceptance and rising to the occasion (probably one of the best films to explore this topic IMO). A fantastic script paired with stellar performances by Julie Andrews (who really projects a regal aura remarkably well, and rightfully deserves the iconic status that her character has as the embodiment of a great cinematic grandma) and most especially Anne Hathaway (whose debut film performance as the teen with self-esteem issues hit in an all to real way for me). Wonderful supporting performances as well from Sandra Oh to Heather Matarazzo, to Héctor Elizondo (easily the MVP of the supporting cast as the ever reliable bodyguard Joe) and many more. I also especially love the level of grace and care the movie shows to the story and its characters without ever feeling cringey, no doubt the result of the graceful direction by the late Gary Marshall. I for one am looking forward to seeing how they approach the upcoming third film. This film is very highly recommended."
