"Unexpectedly, this movie truly touched the depths of my soul. It was beyond compelling. Just know that if you have lost a parent, this film portrays devastating grief and the long journey of overcoming it. Buckle up for an hour and 45 minutes of sadness, mystery and something that will stay with you, haunt you.
This was a masterpiece. "

+ ALL OF US STRANGERS is a marvel, pure and simple. Andrew Haigh is the director, and watching his three previous movies within the span of a couple months, I have grown hugely fond of him and truly do believe that in the world of cinema he is an important voice. Whereas his other movies are rooted in realism and unfold in something close to real time, Haigh takes the plunge into fantasy, using a rich well of symbolism to get within his characters. I for one love movies that exist within worlds that are not easily separate from each other. They unfold through a mixture of waking life experiences and dream logic. This is one of those movies. It is captivating on the most artistically primordial level. Watching it I felt like I was sharing the most melancholy dream with a man searching inside of himself to make peace with his inner ghosts. The ghosts in this movie show up as his mom and dad who he encounters in his old home that he lived in at the age of 12, before they both died. Talking to his parents, it's almost as if nothing ever changed, and no time was lost. He goes back again and again to visit them, and as the narrative unfolds, we aren't sure if he is imagining them, if they are real, or if this is a different quality of reality within the frame altogether without rules, or with very selective ones. Really it doesn't matter, and I prefer that it exists, at least for me, in all of those realms because, as a viewer it places no limits on how I can engage with the film. It gives Charlie Kaufman, David Lynch, and Ingmar Bergman a run for their money, though with its aching heart it does share a kinship with films like ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, and even Tarsem Singh's THE FALL. The acting is on another level. Andrew Scott is as reserved and cutting as ever, but here he gives probably one of my favorite performances ever. Jamie Bell, as his father is spectacular. "
"This wrecked me - very well acted, beautifully filmed as well. It will stick with you for awhile."

"Not what I expected and don’t think I would recommend (and not sure why it had so much acclaim). Some interesting motifs, but there are a few things I would have done differently …
Regardless I am glad to see a gay movie where the gay motif is properly balanced with family / loneliness / depression "
