"I'm mad at myself for sticking with this movie all the way through, hoping there would be a payoff of some kind. But nothing.
I HATED everything about this movie. I hated how dark it was. I hated the film it was shot on. I hated the crackle and hiss of the audio as if it was playing from an old phonograph. I hated how excruciatingly slow paced it was. So much so that I accidentally paused it and it took me a minute to realize it. I hated how the filmmaker felt that every shot was a work of art in his own mind. No one wants to see close up shots of dimly lit crown moulding and carpet and the tops of door frames. I hated the forced subtitles and then the lack of them when it was needed. Even the cartoons that played on the TV sucked. If I didn't read the synopsis of the movie, I would have no idea what it was supposed to be about. More than half of the movie is totally indiscernible, so many times I had no idea what I was looking at. There is nothing I hate more than an Art House film. And that is all that this is.
The whole reason that we watch movies is to be entertained... not once was I entertained watching this. This was a steaming pile of crap.💩 -1/10"

"It's so strange how this film seems to be a 5/5 or 0/5 or different people! That definitely shows how art is super subjective. Its absolutely one of the most divisive films I've ever seen. "

"Felt a bit too long but visually interesting with a few eerie moments . Not too much happens at first but becomes apparent(much later )some entity is tormenting the kids trapping them in some sort of strange dimension. I’d say a 6.5/10 . This experimental horror is not for everyone."

"I hate that I didn't like this one. It actually bums me out. I really wanted to, I promise. However, asking me to sit through an hour forty watching 1/7th of a door frame while every 29 minutes there are indiscernible darkness bonks and every line is just whispers *so* quiet that more than half the movie is forcibly subtitled.....it felt purposely cruel.
I was really excited about the premise of this film, and then my *definitely* trustworthy brother told me I wouldn't like it. So of course that made me want to watch it even more, bc as a huge horror fan, I just *had* to know what he meant lol. As a fan of such a hit-or-miss genre, I'm always skeptical of a new one, and I know finding a top notch is quite a rare occasion.... this one is definitely not one of these occasions. I mean here and there I think I get what they are shooting for, but even those bits are poorly executed. If you like it I suppose I can understand why, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. But this was so riddled with darkness and silence that even Buster Keaton couldn't appreciate it. No palpable sense of any narrative, I don't even remember seeing anyone's face, except I think one child for roughly 30 seconds, which I'm convinced did not help the story in any way. We never see anyone else, we never see even the shadow of the being or force that is taunting and ultimately I guess luring them....to sum up: I have seen nothing. I get it if you were alone in the house and high af and the atmosphere scared you....but this is not a story. I generally need at least a bit of one to connect in some way. It had creepy elements and feelings a few times, but I guess I just need a tad more that that. If you want the feeling of something ominous to surround you and don't need anything more...this one is for you😁"

"Never in my life have I ever watched a film that you have to be so attentive to. Just everything about this horror film is different from anything you’ve ever watched 9 times out of 10. I must warn some people this will be a challenge to watch and not because what is shown in these 100 minutes but the pacing and the way it’s shot. It takes place in 1995 and it’s shot on analog film to give it that nostalgic 90’s look. This is one of those horror films that should be watched at night in the dark with no interruptions if possible. I don’t even consider it a film to watch with multiple people it’s really built for a solo experience. This is one of those films where the visuals linger long after the movie has ended.Last night I found myself looking in the hallway outside my room thinking because darkness just looks different now. Skinamarink is very good at playing tricks on your imagination if you allow it so much so you find yourself just staring at complete darkness trying to figure out are you really seeing something. It’s a very slow burn with great payoff if you can get through it. Skinamarink isn’t for everybody but it’s one of the few horrors I’ve seen this year to have an affect on me which isn’t easy to do. You have to Immerseyourself or it will not work. All real horror fans should give it a try. @abs "

"I finally finished this and wow. I mean I won’t say it’s the greatest movie ever by any means. But I finally found a movie that made me scared. From the static look, and the very cramped camera angles. Plus the just quiet sounds happening throughout. I really enjoyed this. Theirs a lot of weirdness to the film especially during the end. And I loved every second of it. That phone scene scared me more than any scene has. This is definitely my favorite horror movie not plot wise but definitely horror wise. The reason I wouldn’t recommend is it really is slow at times. But I’m so glad I ended up watching it. Hopefully I can fine another movie that is eerie and actually scares me like this one."

"Couldn’t even watch it after 10 minutes in, nothing made since and it was not scary. I don’t understand why it was highly ranked…."

"As I’ve noted in a number of my film reviews, I’m absolutely okay with slow-paced/slow-burn horrors, thrillers, and dramas. Skinamarink certainly pushes the limits, in this respect. However, it does such a great job crafting constant tension and an intriguing atmosphere, the pacing just feels right.
This is a debut film for its director. I’m very interested in seeing what comes next!"

"⭐️⭐️for artistry alone. I found this movie excruciatingly boring. It’s too dark, too quiet. 20 minutes could of easily been cut out. It leaves too much up for interpretation. It’s hard for me to immerse myself in a story when there’s nothing to connect with. I could of appreciated the quiet times more if perhaps it showed a little bit of the family prior to this event. Good for you if you appreciate this movie. It’s unique. I enjoyed the way it was filmed complete with creepy ass old school cartoons playing in the background. I just found myself wishing it would be over so I could get on with my day. "

"This movie has such great potential, but it fails incredibly. The plot is hard to follow and I wish they gave us more to go off of."
