Would like a bit more planetary variation in the next season, but what was here was great, love the characters, love the writing, love the stories. I’m honestly starting to wish they just gave actual Star Trek to Seth instead of whatever blockbuster action hack of the week they pawn it off too."

Orville is sincerely funny, innovative as far as sci-fi/space travel is concerned, and each episode hosts unique and genuinely interesting predicaments. It's a pleasure to watch. At first glance I thought it was going to be a step down from Star Trek, but I actually might enjoy this more. The social/philosophical/moral issues are more accessible to my mind and I resonate with more of the characters."

I was hoping it would be a good parody of the movie "Galaxy Quest" which also parodied Star Trek. I was hooked after the first episode! I did have high hopes with Seth McFarland at the helm (both figuratively (as Captain of the Orville) and realistically (behind the scenes as both writer, producer and creater). Needless to say, he did not disappoint! McFarland must be a true Trekie as well! This little show that could is a true homage to the sci-fi space genres, not just Star Trek! It is funny, laugh out loud funny, parody at it's best, but that's not all! McFarland takes on current social issues with humor and bitting wit, but he doesn't become preachy and never forgets this is pure entertainment! I've been waiting patiently for the 3rd season since the series jumped ship from Fox after the season 2 finally and now rests in the streaming hands of Hulu! I hope they can have episodes that can go beyond the "free" network sensors, and go boldly beyond where it's gone before! I was shocked and waaaaaaay beyond pleasantly surprised to find that The Orville is the true spiritual successor to the Star Trek empire. If you have anything beyond a passing interest in classic Star Trek (anything other than Discovery or Picard), then set aside a weekend to binge The Orville. Immediately."

The creator (Seth MacFarlane, also made Family Guy) wasn't allowed to make a Star Trek show so he went ahead and made his own show. hans_iverson shared a tip "Seth MacFarlane is polarizing, but if you can't stand him he's not really the centerpiece of this space soap. Standard Star Trek ripoff dealing with current problems. It's not great, but it's entertaining and thought provoking and I was a bit bummed there was no more at the end of season 2. Think Galaxy Quest with fewer laugh out loud moments because you're dealing with real issues. (Binging is a bit touchy though as the episodes are formulaic.)"

The jokes are both obvious and subtle (many, many nods to the Trek universe)... but the actual plots are solid, well thought out, and honestly good writing. Some span the entire season(s)... which was a plesant suprise."
