"absolutely incredible setting. terrible writing and pacing. the dual episode format does not work for this like it does for star vs the forces of evil. this is literal american anime and not in a good way. soo much hypermanic adhd filler in between the main plot progression. whats done right is done really right, what's done wrong is done really wrong. one last major qualm I have is the main characters family reaction to her getting back after around 5 months being extremely emotionally shallow compared to luz's mom in the owl house. "
"So! Amphibia! Something of a slog for the first season, better for the second, and a quite excellent finale. I enjoyed the female human characters and the Boonchuys, but I never really connected that much to the Plantars. God, was Sprig irritating (I say, possessing many of his attributes so they get even MORE under my skin).
I really appreciate getting to see the characters get older, and the background visual humor and comedic timing in the human world was absolutely amazing (I could tell the animators were having a lot of fun for those episodes).
The writing got tighter and the jokes got funnier in season 3, and I wish we could have hung out with the newly introduced characters of that season a little more.
Spoilers:
Anne dying and being cloned and offered literal godhood was my absolute favorite moment of that finale!! So messed up! So satisfying!
Amphibia as a whole gave me more coherent Digimon vibes (especially with the return to Earth) and a more charming Magic Knight Rayearth, with the color scheme and magical girls in armor and the dungeons. Brought me back to middle and high school a little."
"Where do I start with how brilliant and hilarious this show is, the characters are all adorable!! Brenda Song is perfect for the lead (also first animated series with a Thai lead), not to mention a surprise animated secret agent RuPaul??!!! It is such an endearing show with such a surprisingly cool froggy world (until Season 3....no spoilers) and very relatable. I laugh so hard watching this show especially at my favorite character Hop Pop and reminds me a lot of Owl House (also highly recommend!!) All ages will love this and the story is such an adventure!!"
"i really enjoy the formula that newer cartoon have of season 1 is mostly filler/shenanigans with a packed ending, season 2 with lots of plot and some shenanigans, and season 3 focusing mainly on the central plot. this is a goofy love letter to friendship and growing up. i really loved the ending, they grow up and grow away from each other, but they still share a special bond because of amphibia. the characters are really funny and can be over the top sometimes, but hey, it’s a kids show, so that makes sense. shout out to hop pop cause he’s my favorite character "
"good premise, cute characters, Thai rep, and nice animation style however the writing is pretty lazy at times, ending is kinda lame, dialogue is predictable, tropey, and the main frog characters never learn from their mistakes going back to being just as impulsive and self centered the next episode."
