J. R. R. Tolkien
Read the definitive edition of Bilbo Baggins’ adventures in middle-earth in this classic bestseller behind this year’s biggest movie. The Hobbit is a tale of high adventure, undertaken by a company of dwarves in search of dragon-guarded gold. A reluctant partner in this perilous quest is Bilbo Baggins, a comfort-loving unambitious hobbit, who surprises even himself by his resourcefulness and skill as a burglar. Encounters with trolls, goblins, dwarves, elves and giant spiders, conversations with the dragon, Smaug, and a rather unwilling presence at the Battle of Five Armies are just some of the adventures that befall Bilbo. Bilbo Baggins has taken his place among the ranks of the immortals of children’s fiction. Written by Professor Tolkien for his own children, The Hobbit met with instant critical acclaim when published.

"Now this isn’t even half as good as The Lord of the Rings trilogy but that was lighting in a bottle so I’m not surprised they couldn’t totally remake that feeling…but out of the three hobbit movies this is the closest! I saw it in theaters and was just really existed to get back to Middle Earth and it does at least give me that but I would pass on the other two. This story could of been one movie. "
"I read this when i was in highschool and it has been 10 years so i wanted to give it another go and i loved it just as much. It felt like catching up with an old friend after they had just had the most outrageous adventures. Not gonna lie the epilogue made me tear up a bit. Not sure why everyone throws so much shade on the movies they definitely are different but just more *cinematic* maybe ill read every june as a new little tradition. "
"This was a book that I've grown up with, or the movies at least. I've watched the original movie time and time again and all of the remakes and series as well. My mom has always been a HUGE fan of this universe and I can't say I blame her. I think she read "The Hobbit" to me long ago but I can't remember for sure. Anways, a read of it was long overdue and I was glad to finally read it myself.
As a rule I really don't re-read very often, and if I do usually it's because I've forgotton most of the book. I just hate knowing exactly what happens even if it's a book I love, and for that reason it was kind of hard for me to get into "The Hobbit." But there was a ton of diffrences the book had from the movies and they were fun to pick out and helped me get into it. It's also just a really well written book, so that helps.
I think what really made this book stand out to me are a couple of things. First, the pacing is just so good, like it's so fast paced and I was never board of anything becuase of it. Second, I think that the epic feeling of this book, the "high fantasy" persona of it really makes it fun. It's a classic for a reason.
If for some reason you haven't read this, it is worth it."
