"Such a subtle and beautiful film. I don’t know how to articulate what it made me feel, but it’s one that sticks with you. It’s unsettling to sit with the choices we make and explore the infinite outcomes had we chosen differently. Really loved it. And what a debut, can’t wait to see more from Celine Song"
"I think a lot of people have that one romantic interest from their past that you still think about and go, what if? Writer and director Celine Song did and she wrote and directed this wonderful, melodramatic, touching what if film. All 3 of the MC’s acting is absolutely terrific. What’s unusual in this case is these are the most well adjusted, smart and respectful characters on the planet. Especially the husband. "
"The most cathartic experience I’ve ever had through a film. I cried 6 separate times. The Before Trilogy trilogy walked so Past Lives could run. It touched my soul.
Similar to Everything Everywhere All at Once, Celine Song explores our fascination with all of our lives that could have been realized, but never were. And all of our future lives that are yet to be. A Buddhist idea that has seeped into the psyche of a whole generation.
Past Lives comments on idealism, young love, and what it means to be an immigrant. I gained insight into a lifestyle and culture that is far from relatable for me. I adore this film and cannot wait to watch it again. Congratulations to Celine Song for creating such a resonant piece of art."
"It was a nice film not your average american film. The acting was great and the chemistry was felt! "

"A beautifully moving film of memories, love and connection between souls. There is a level of modesty and restraint in its presentation (on top of focusing on human characters) that I find to be very admirable. Solid directorial debut for Celine Song, and the fact that this is semi-autobiographical adds an emotional resonance what wouldn’t be possible otherwise. Beautiful screenplay paired with performances from Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and especially John Magaro. I really hope this film contends for major awards (especially for its script). Highly recommended."

"This movie subtly talks about love, loss, and the endless possibility for how things could’ve gone. There’s a push-and-pull nature to how the narrative unfolds as you wonder will they or won’t they? It felt all shades and types of bittersweet, but parts also appeared frustrating and circuitous, like the characters never accessed what they truly wanted. Wanting to go after one’s ambition versus one’s true love were frequently in tension as one’s culture and one’s heart speak different tunes and, in turn, operate on different wavelengths. "
