AN INSTANT #1 INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER Instant New York Times bestseller Instant #1 Sunday Times bestseller Instant Indie bestseller Instant USA Today bestseller Clashing empires, forbidden romance, and a long-forgotten queen destined to save her people—New York Times bestselling author Tahereh Mafi's first novel in this epic, romantic fantasy series inspired by Persian mythology. To all the world, Alizeh is a disposable servant, not the long-lost heir to an ancient Jinn kingdom forced to hide in plain sight. The crown prince, Kamran, has heard the prophecies foretelling the death of his king. But he could never have imagined that the servant girl with the strange eyes, the girl he can’t put out of his mind, would one day soon uproot his kingdom – and the world. Perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo, Sarah J Maas, and Chloe Gong, this is the explosive first book in a new fantasy trilogy from the New York Times bestselling and National Book Award-nominated author, Tahereh Mafi. “An original fantasy saga threaded through with Persian myths written by a queen of the genre. A* grade world-building” – The Times Best YA Books for Summer 2022 ‘Forbidden love and Persian mythology are at the center of this new trilogy series, and it might be Mafi's best work yet.’ – Cosmopolitan, Best YA Books of 2022 ‘Master of YA fantasy’ Pop Sugar ‘Gut-wrenchingly beautiful.’ – Kirkus Reviews “In a tale as exquisitely crafted as one of Alizeh’s own garments, Mafi weaves a spell of destiny and danger, forbidden love and courtly intrigue, magic and revolution.”—Cassandra Clare, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Last Hours ‘This story is so magical and transportive that I fully expected the book would know the moment I'd finished – within hours, no less – and promptly unravel into a pile of jewels and silks in my hands. Mafi's diamond-bright lyrical voice weaves a tale that is gilded in magic, laced with subterfuge, adorned with the brocade of a tortuous romance, and richly embroidered with Persian mythology. I cannot wait for more.’ – Roshani Chokshi, New York Times bestselling author of The Gilded Wolves

"okay but I must say this is so much better than shatter me series. feels a lot more fantasy like. I really love that I can relate to this on a cultural/religious context. I absolutely loved Alizeh from the very first moment. the Farsi numbers literally brought tears to my eyes.
Kamran, at first was hard to understand but I really grew to like him with Alizeh. The bedroom scene 😭. I love a simp. “I think I might fetch you the moon if only to spare your tears again.” I CANNOT.
HAZAN deserved better tbh, kinda see him ending up with Huda lol? I need to know more about him.
Omid is just James in a diff font.
Cyrus: he is so funny.
NOOOOOO. Why why why must she let me get invested in Kamran/Alizeh and then gives me enemies to possible lovers with Alizeh/Cyrus (the banter, the hatred).
“You’re coming to Tulan, to marry me” LIKE MISS TAHEREH PULLING ANOTHER AARON/ADAM SITUATION? IMMA BE LIVID.
UGH 40 days. gotta wait fourth days to read the next book. "
"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5
I enjoyed this book very much! Tahereh Mafi has a beautiful way of writing prose, and I especially loved the way she told this story. I like Alizeh a lot, but I think Kamran is an incredibly well thought out character. Alizeh needs to come out of her shell (which I’m excited for, get it girl!), but Kamran already has several complexities and flaws that make me eager to know how his story finishes.
I was clutching my pearls within the last 25%, a lot happened so fast that I did NOT predict (though I can see where most others would be able to follow the clues better than I). The internet is vocally bonkers for Nothing, so I already know how he plays into the story. The world-building was rich and well done, and I especially like the magic system. I don’t fully understand it yet, but I like the idea of harvesting/mining magic - it’s unique! And girl, Miss Huda is a big mood. I was truthfully giggling during the scene with Nothing, Miss Huda, and Alizeh - and it’s hard for a book to make me giggle! Loved it.
My only critique is this book was super slow at times. I read about Kamran’s discomfort with his clothing for far too long and far too often. I’m not sure if that’ll play into something later (maybe his own magic?), but it was definitely touched on a lot. Alizeh’s time at the Baz House also dragged on occasionally. It wasn’t painfully slow or boring, don’t get me wrong, but I think this book could have been trimmed a hair. I really liked the romance between Alizeh and Kamran, it was very “clay” of Kamran to be absolutely smitten with her. I loooooved being in Kamran’s thoughts when he’s around Alizeh, I truthfully hate being in the mind of MMCs more often than not, but Kamran is again so complex with his thoughts that, ugh, it was beautifully done. This boy is down bad, I just hope he ends up happy. <3
Let’s see what’s in store for Hazan, Kamran, and Alizeh next! I’m looking forward to starting These Infinite Threads."
