"(SPOILER ALERT) Literally couldn’t put it down. Went into the story completely blind and I was blown away. The plot twist of Maven betraying Mare and Cal and killing the king really shocked me. I will say that, although I didn’t expect his deceit, I did have a weird feeling about his and Mare’s relationship for most of the book. It didn’t feel natural to me. I was Team Cal all the way. Side Note: Mare has serious game. She had 3 men pining for her and no matter what she did, they all followed her like damn puppy dogs"

"Boring. Main character was unlikeable and uninteresting. Plot was bland. Overall was yawning the whole way through."

"I enjoyed this fantasy. It reminded me of divergent and a little bit of x-men vibes and the way the societies and hierarchy gives a little bit of games of thrones in the lightness, meaning possible I think the whole thing is a super exciting concept I m not a massive fan of the writing it does get slightly cringey a times and did read as YA but like it is YA so that's to be expected but it didnt overall ruin the story for me any way for me the love interest aren't likeable Cal is giving republican and the others "love" interests I can't go into much detail about but once you know you know lol if you're looking for a fantasy romance I don't think this one is really strong in that aspect personally I do like our main character but sometimes our main girl be getting on my nerves she's folds so quickly lol like if were her I would hate
these people whole heartedly and sometimes she's just lets things go so quickly other then that im liking this series so far Love me some hateable characters and this book does that so well it also does the satisfying power trope and revenge plot well the action parts are definitely my favorite parts and the strongest parts of this book in my option the book gets so detailed throught those parts I wish it was more like that with everything "
