"This was my first experience with Sarah J. Maas’ writing and if you’re thinking of reading this book, there are a few things you should know.
1. The beginning is SLOW. Like really slow. The whole book is almost exactly 800 pages and it takes 100 to get to the inciting incident and another 20 to get to the main plot.
2. This book has an intricate complex world. The world-building takes a lot of time (hence the slow beginning), but I promise it’s super necessary toward the plot and themes of the novel.
3. The romance between Bryce and Hunt is one of the best executions of a slow burn I’ve ever read. It was natural and it didn’t feel forced. Their bonding through mutual grief and survivor’s guilt created a relationship built on trust and vulnerability that easily transitioned into intense attraction and intense love and respect. It was beautiful.
4. The last 200 pages were an emotional rollercoaster. It tied everything together. It was full of insane reveals, clever callbacks and devastating deaths. The last 200 pages made the slowness at the beginning more than worth it and it’s what pushed this novel from 4 1/2 stars to 5.
In all, this novel was stunning and such an exciting read. I can’t wait to dive back into the world of Crescent City in the House of Sky and Breath."
"I liked Sarah's first venture into adult fantasy. Looking forward to the next book."

"Book 1 Crescent City- I loved this book! It had a love story that went from indifference to trusted coworker to friends to falling in love. It was not about lust but about trust and finding friends again after loss. The plot in this story was also amazing! Every detail in the beginning of the book had a purpose that was revealed by the end. I love to guess the ending of books and while something I got right there were so many twists that even I was surprised by the end. I cannot wait to read the second book! "
