"3.5⭐️ This film left me feeling sad and melancholy..even days later now..and was somewhat triggering which I didn’t expect and I guess explains the unsettled state that hasn’t quite dissipated….
And of course that’s the exact tone of the movie and the entire point Sophia Coppola is making. Priscilla’s life with Elvis was unsettling. Especially for a 16 year old girl. And Graceland was her gilded cage. Coppola filmed it in lovely stillness and quiet solitude. Everything feels so small and insular, a reflection of Priscilla’s isolation in perfect contrast to Elvis’s larger than life persona and appetites. The only time Graceland is filled with life is when he returns from his big wide open world accompanied by the ever present entourage who you get a sense meant more to him than anyone except his mother, including Priscilla….
With her life in his hands her existence is solely his, consisting of performative displays of affection offset by apathetic rejection or terrifying moments of narcissistic control and volatility. Swept off her feet by the most glamorous, charismatic, famous man in the world, you feel the headiness, confusion and growing despair. It would be a lot for anyone but she’s a child. With immersion into his world any semblance of a previous life evaporates. There is no childhood left to possibly return to. When adulthood, personhood and realization finally come, the relief that she made it out is palpable….
This film won’t be making my favorites list however I am pleased Priscilla’s story is finally given space and importance. This type of victimization of young girls at the hands of untouchable men is a problem not everyone is willing to admit or wants to believe. The more it’s laid bare the better….
Jeez I really didn’t mean to write such a long one this time! It obviously struck me more than I realized and deserves watching….

"Beautiful cinematography and aesthetics! It’s also quite raw, a new look into their relationship that many romanticized (or romanticized Elvis). Priscilla grew up and was able to direct her life to her own happiness and purpose. Different from the Elvis movie, demonstrates Priscilla’s life after meeting Elvis."

"Good acting, but I felt bad for Priscilla. She seemed like she has a very lonely life and it’s kind of creepy that Priscilla was younger than Elvis and it’s kind of sad that she would do everything he would tell her."

"Second Sophia Coppola this week. Beautiful and stylish and so sad. The camera ravishes the characterization of Priscilla. I wish it could have included more of Priscilla finding herself after Elvis. Loved the hair and makeup from 1950s to 1972 and the 60’s sets. "

"This was hard to watch at first and it did not get easier to continue watching. I felt like we got a sneak peak at how her life was like with Elvis and I think there still was more that happened that wasn’t shown in the film. It’s crazy to me that no one around Elvis questioned his actions about dating or being interested in someone her age. At first I understood her and why she wanted to pursue the fling with Elvis she was young and at the time it was seen as “cool” for someone older to be interested in someone younger (at least thats what I understood), but I couldn’t feel sorry for her and what she endured because she knew how he was. I do feel sorry for everything after that with all the loss she had in her life especially recently. Overall great acting and the movie had great quality I definitely recommend checking out."

"This movie this freaking movie right here is iconic and does so much with so little. If you truly watch this film and pay attention to the small details such as the perfume scene it will definitely be pulling on your heart strings. Also this is the better movie elvis was ******* horrible in the reglorification of Elvis thank you A24 for showing how much of a piece of **** he was. People stop idolizing elvis! "

"I'd say this is more like a 2.5 ⭐️ the book is so much better, but I can see how younger people would really like it for more aesthetic purposes. I highly recommend reading Elvis and Me, personally I thought it was amazing. The scenes in the book compared to the film are a lot more watered down in my opinion."

"I concur with several of the reviews already posted here. I preferred watching "Priscilla" over the 2022 "Elvis" (which did gloss over Priscilla's story), even though there were parts that were a bit hard to watch, yet she still had the choice to walk at any time. Even though I already knew how Priscilla's story played out, it still blows my mind how her parents allowed her to do what she did as a minor..."

"“You’re losing me to a life of my own.”
This was stirring, distressing, and a deep examination of what it is to put life on hold for someone else. Especially when that someone else has toxic, negative qualities that manifest more and more as the relationship goes on. Elvis is endlessly controlling and critiques Priscilla, whether it be on looks, her outfit, or her contribution to a conversation. And she wears blinders for a while, an act of survivalist self-preservation, while letting the abuse go tragically on. She is so young when it comes down to it and has much to learn in terms of finding herself more deeply.
Priscilla takes time to come into her own and this is her journey on such a raw and real, intensively involved level. She is redefining her story and agency as a woman through stunning, gorgeous cinematography typical of Sofia Coppola’s brilliant eye for intimate, microscopic detail. "
