College student Beca knows she does not want to be part of a clique, but that's exactly where she finds herself after arriving at her new school. Thrust in among mean gals, nice gals and just plain weird gals, Beca finds that the only thing they have in common is how well they sing together. She takes the women of the group out of their comfort zone of traditional arrangements and into a world of amazing harmonic combinations in a fight to the top of college music competitions.

"I know I'm gonna get flack for disliking this but I do. Even rewatching it years later most of it is cringey. The basic story isn't bad but the execution makes me want to fast forward through most parts. Even with the commentary by the couple throughout the movie I still feel awkward. Mostly they're just there to showcase the opinion of the public and throw in a few extra jokes. It's fine simply overdone as time goes on. Yet it also works so I can't really critique it. The two of them help portray the feelings of the audience well. The songs are phenomenal when they aren't pitchy. I love the character fat Amy and she has skills, but her voice is so scratchy half the time. I think for what this movie did it was well done. The ending is also good. And again the songs are often great, when nobody's trying to show off their "range." I do like the sequel because that German group is amazing at singing and performance, then the third is just good because the songs are all great. All of them. So I appreciate this movie for starting the series. However, it is my least favorite. Beca and Jessie I enjoy. Their relationship is fun and the heart of the story. Also the dad pointing out about how college is making memories then seeing Beca make a memory at the riff off shows foresight by the writers. That always ends up being good when you can see effort. But like Jessie says, the ending is the best part. That means the ending of this movie kind of redeems it. Too bad you have a lot to wade through to get there."
"4.5/5*s I'm late to the party with this gem. Unfortunately we can't watch 2 and 3. Too expensive for now. I'm a big Anna Kendrick fan and she was so good in this. I'm used to her playing more happy or kinda ditzy characters so I enjoyed seeing her play a reclusive jerk. She wasn't completely horrible. She just doesn't like cliques and she wants to do her music and she isn't big on making new friendships. She comes across as kinda rude and standoffish but she's actually pretty nice. I loved Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow but I always love them in everything. Lots of fun a Cappella songs including a sing off and great mixes. It also includes stuff about my favorite movie, The Breakfast Club. Yes, it's my number one of all time. I can hardly wait to watch the other two movies!"
