"A heartfelt story with themes of homosexuality & crime. I especially loved the #1950s setting & the elegant mid-century fashions, especially for women: tailored dresses with full skirts, large overcoats with fur trim, hats, gloves, etc. — The clothes women wore back then were so beautiful 🤩… but, as a woman now living in the 21st century, I also REALLY, REALLY appreciate NOW being able to wear my sloppy, comfortable denim blue jeans 👖 and t-shirts, day after day 😅 "
"A symphony of fleeting glimpses, glances, touches, embraces, and an overwhelming ambience of aching desire. Rain-drops mix with tears, discernable to only those who know the source and the resonance behind sheltered memories. Todd Haynes takes the foundation of Super 16mm and refines it until every color and texture leaps off the screen with subdued grandeur. Fleeting moments, usually tossed aside in most films, are an essential component to a love story that carried me deeper into the delicate details of its characters and its impeccably realized setting. A pair of gloves "lost", a song flowing from the radio in a tunnel that seemed to be beamed from another planet, and the overwhelming embrace of two bodies are matter-of-fact in reality, but not to the audience and certainly not to the characters. Haynes directs each particularly important frame with the idea of memory already seeped into the grain, and it allows for the romance to flourish because you get a feeling of transcendent connection. Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara are unforgettable. And so is this film. A love story for the ages."
"I will start this review by stating that I am a heterosexual woman. I am only attracted to men but I do think women are beautiful and I've definitely had sexual fantasies about women. But I am not interested in dating a woman nor in having an actual sexual encounter with one. I'm not sure if that's weird but I do know that people come in all different ways so I'm not concerned with being strange. I only bring this up because I want to make it clear that this is a beautiful love story for EVERYONE. I loved it. I felt their chemistry. It all came together so perfectly. And spoiler alert......................................................................................if you love a happy ending, this is your movie. "
