"While this movie was much better than I heard it would be it doesn’t hold a candle to the other mummy movies. The script and characters could be better but I would like to see where the story would go in a sequel. I am also disappointed that the dark universe ended before it could truly begin."
"For a movie that was meant to kick off the “Dark Universe” and put the classic Universal monsters of Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolf-Man, etc. back into prominence, this was an extremely tone-deaf, bafflingly terrible movie. I’ll admit that I never really cared that much for the Brendon Fraser movie, but I can at least see the appeal and enjoy it as a fun popcorn flick. And at least that movie could keep a consistent tone! The Mummy herself has a great look, but her backstory is all over the place, her powerset is inconsistent (why is Tom Cruise indestructible now when the other guy she killed comes back as a zombie-ghost-whatever?!), and the story shifts from action to horror to superhero to horror about 5 times in the space in of an hour. The point of building a cinematic universe and what makes them successful is to make one or two GOOD movies that people like and then start saying “Hey, you know that this, that, and this other thing are great. Well, this movie we got here and all those are in the same universe! Which means we can do crossovers and stuff; you already know how dangerous these monsters are, and how badass these heroes are, but what if we have those heroes TEAM UP?” They’re saying all that before the next movie even has a POSTER—let alone a trailer—so it’s promising the audience the edge of the galaxy before they’ve even drawn up the blueprints for the space shuttle. And, honestly, if the rest of the movies were this disjointed and haphazard, maybe it’s a good thing we never got to see their take on Dracula or Creature from the Black Lagoon or whatever else they had planned. "
"I actually thought it was really good except the mummy being obsessed with Tom Cruise's character as a mate. That plot line is just a vanity story line for Tom Cruise. If he wasn't so old and maybe if it wasn't Tom Cruise that plotline might have worked. The actress who played the mummy was awesome. "
