"4⭐️ rewatch. An exquisite, moody, melodrama of a movie. The first time I saw it I was mesmerized by the witchy dreamy southern gothic vibe. The bayou is its own character, ethereally casting a spell over every moment. It also struck me now how much it borrows from those engrossing 1950’s housewife dramas that always seemed to star Deborah Kerr, which isn’t a bad thing. The marriage between suburban melodrama, mystical gothic and childhood coming of age, in the hands of Kasi Lemmons in her directorial debut, comes together beautifully.

"This movie reminds me of home back in Louisiana. It’s so nostalgic and rich with Louisiana creole culture. I am creole and i really enjoy the accuracy with Kréyol La Lwizyàn. I have seen other movies that weee very inaccurate. Eve’s story is very complex because this story line can go more than one direction. Every character was multifaceted. Even the children acted for well in the film. If you are looking for a southern black gothic movie. This is one of the best. "

"such a beautiful movie, plot just jerks you around in such a delicate way. the color pallet for it was stunning, the movie itself was super duper visually appealing- it’s my new favorite movie "
