"another disney cookie cutter storyline but I don't let the trash that is disney ruin a great pixar film or should I say cough* "a great tech demo". absolutely amazing color palette and use of physics a visual spectacle like the first time taking a psychedelic. crystal clear. does good with disney's signature optimistic humanism but lacks the soul for a proper film. 7/10. "This might be my new favorite Pixar movie. It takes its time setting up the world, and that helps make the movie’s intimate moments resonate. Don’t expect a standout villain like De La Cruz, as Luca’s antagonist compares closely to the pathetic manbaby Despicable Me’s Vector. But that decision allows more focus and texture on the worldbuilding and the main characters, to the movie’s benefit. We’ve already had Gaston, we don’t always need a ragingly effective villain to make a story work. And Luca, Alberto, and Giulia are so wonderfully well rounded and convincing as children, with their dreams, defense mechanisms, vulnerabilities, and forgiveness."
"Would have liked to learn what were real Italian phrases and what was gibberish, because I know there was both!"
"what a cute movie! i’m a sucker for any movie set in Italy. i loved the animation style, it was a fun humorous watch, with a wholly simplistic yet engaging storyline! :) "
