"A classic portrait of a man searching for his identity, along the way finding what it truly means to be free. Shot in stunning panoramic views and backed by a moving soundtrack by John Barry. A sorrowful love letter of farewell to the American frontier; it has the kind of vision and ambition that is rare in movies today."

"A movie that may soon be outlawed by Republicans! It shows that Native Americans as human and not villains. A great movie about how one man taking the time to understand a culture can gain respect and love for it. On the flip side the army’s indifference and prejudice blinds them to the evil that is caused by that way of thinking. These are lessons that should be taught to make this a better world."
