"This was actually the first horror movie I ever saw, and one of the best horror remakes. I know a lot of fans said this but I’ll add to it: the original is a truly unnerving, disturbing film that almost feels like some reel of footage recovered by police from a serial killer’s basement, while this one is very much a movie; a good movie, but still feels like a movie. I love the characters, I love the acting, Leatherface is terrifying in this, and it has one of my favorite cinematography shots in the van. This is the standard by which I measure every other remake: familiar, but different; iconic, but not rehashed; pays tribute to its source, but gives the audience something new. They were NEVER going to top the dinner scene, but that slaughterhouse climax was amazing. "
