"3.75⭐️ Finally watched this but in time for all the Oscar controversy at least lol. Sooooo….sketchy for a movie to receive 8 nominations including best picture and the DIRECTOR to be left out huh? As if Greta Gerwig wasn’t responsible for any of it in any way 🤔
Ryan Gosling WAS pretty funny though 💁♂️🕺
Ok so after all the hype I liked it. Not to say I’m jumping up and down in glee but maybe if I’d seen it when released, knowing little beforehand, I would have. Definitely would not have expected the feminist themes right at the forefront, which I’m totally on board for. Also how well done it is, flawlessly cast and acted, snappily directed and just a cinematic feast of bright perfection and primary colors.
That said…it was a lot. SO much sensory overload, even more than I even expected from a Barbie movie. A bit much of a neon explosion for my dark soul. You know just an inclusion of Goth Barbie a la Janeane Garafalo would’ve sent me over the moon. That’s just me though.
Overall I do believe it culturally to be the most important movie of the millennium so far. Not because it’s a great movie (it has its flaws) but because its message is going to reverberate for little girls for decades to come. I enjoyed viewing it through that lens so I’m kinda glad I was late to the party."
"I initially had no interest in seeing this movie until I heard the hype that it was surprisingly good. That being said, it was better than I expected and I found myself chuckling through most of the movie. That is until about the last 1/4 of the movie when the Kens had their unnecessary musical number, that's when things went off the rails for me. Kind of has a live action Lego movie feel to it. 7/10"
"This movie was a bittersweet ride that wasn’t what I expected. Just when you start to think the entire film is a surface level anti-man comedy, it turns you expectations inside out. This film is all about the search to find your inner self and happiness in spite of society’s expectations, no matter your gender. It’s all about finding your inner you when everyone is telling you what you are. It’s also about the beauty of imperfections, both in life and in yourself. Life isn’t supposed to be perfect, and as hard as that is, it’s also beautiful. On a less heavy note, Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling and Michael Cera dominated this film. I found myself giggling but also reminiscing over my childhood throughout. I left with a smile on my face."
"A little overhyped and when Ken did his solo musical I just about checked out."

"Finally had the chance to watch the Barbie movie! It exceeded all my expectations. I usually don’t enjoy any kind of time travel/going into a different world kind of thing but this one was amazing. Growing up with Barbie dolls made this film really nostalgic. It was on feminism and create a love for the equality movement. Acting was amazing and appreciation for Greta!"
"This was what I expected before I heard the hype, but because there was so much hype it was hard to not be swayed into expecting more and so I was disappointed but glad my movie ticket was only $5. The movie was slow and silly and overall the plot felt very meh. That's not to say there weren't some great scenes, or that the cast didn't kill it, because I loved the intro to Barbie's world and America Ferrera's speech - both made great by the actors' efforts. The root of the story just felt like dead weight being dragged through the middle of the plot and really ruined it for me, making all the great things feel less great. And while some are complaining of it being too political, I thought that was perfectly fine. 6/10 but leaning towards I liked it "
