NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Two starcrossed magicians engage in a deadly game of cunning in the spellbinding novel that captured the world's imagination. • "Part love story, part fable ... defies both genres and expectations." —The Boston GlobeThe circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them both, this is a game in which only one can be left standing. Despite the high stakes, Celia and Marco soon tumble headfirst into love, setting off a domino effect of dangerous consequences, and leaving the lives of everyone, from the performers to the patrons, hanging in the balance.

"I loved this for its vivid imagery and the long, slow relationships it explores. I started this booking thinking it was a romance, and honestly, that was a hindrance to the experience. The book is way more than a romance. It's an exploration of imagination and relationships as a whole. Because of that, the book does move at a VERY slow pace, and at times, it almost feels plotless. The POV and time switch often enough that I really struggle to recommend the audiobook. This should be read at your own pace, and it might even be worth reading twice in a row. I don't think this book is for everyone, especially not if you want something fast-paced with events happening on a grand scale. It's a subtle story for nights spent drinking warm cider in a comfy corner.

"This is a great book for anyone in a reading slump. Short chapters, immersive, pretty easy but not cheaply so, it’s incredibly lush. If I had read this earlier in my getting-back-to-reading time I would probably be a super fan like so many are, including some dear friends who kept asking “have you read it yet?” for years. As it stands, this book was enjoyable and sweet, but not one of my favorites."

"This book was so so very disappointing. It was extremely slow, descriptive to the point of ridiculousness, and somewhat confusing. I think the idea was good but it was very poorly executed. Also, this book is described as a love story, but I found the love came out of nowhere and was very basic. I found myself skimming far too many pages, and honestly I was tempted to stop reading it altogether. And, somehow, I felt it too fast paced as well. Everything was sudden but it took forever to reach the next point. "
