"I will always prefer the Gene Wilder portrayal of this character. This was just... Odd.. Visually it's interesting but I wasn't drawn into it and have no desire to watch it again. "

"A nice musical prequel to the original film of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory 1971, as Willy Wonka travels to the city where the best chocolates are sold working to make a name for himself as a chocolates maker!"

"I went to see this movie with my wife, under protest. It was her choice, and I was sure I would have to suffer through it. As soon as it began and they started singing, I rolled my eyes and thought to myself "Great, it's a musical on top of everything else."... But I didn't hate it.
Timothee Chalamet is brilliant playing the role of a young Willy Wonka. He completely embodies the spirit of the character that Gene Wilder made famous so many years ago. He has the same twinkle in his eye and a childlike smirk on his face that makes you believe that Wonka is magical.
The story is a bit silly and whimsical but fits the theme perfectly for the type of movie that this is. Hugh Grant is a stand out favorite playing an Oompa-Loompa. Beautiful set designs and special effects compliment the array of quirky, offbeat characters. I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly entertained when I hadn't expected to be in the least. In my opinion, way better than the Johnny Depp version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. 8.5/10"

"Not bad for a prequel."

"Timothee Chalomet is gorgeous and the camera eats him up. However his singing voice is thin and his acting is rather one note. I miss Gene Wilder’s self confident fanatasist. The story is weak, depicting the making of Wonka."

"This was cute! Timothée is a solid singer, the set design was beautiful, and I laughed at a few of the cheap jokes. This version of Wonka is not quite whimsical enough to captivate me in the way first two movies did, but it’s a fun holiday watch! I normally can’t stand musicals but I had a pleasant time eating garlic parmesan bagel bites while watching this :}"

"even more dark and depressing than tim burtons adaptation. how sad they rewrap all the colorful candy into the corporate drab of tan, browns greys and black and everyone buys it all up. this isn't amazing new sincerity its postmodern garbage y'all are willingly eating. i'll avoid the soylent green for the soul thank you. very much. "OH. MY. GOD. I don’t even know how to properly explain how utterly and RIDICULOUSLY GOOD this truly was. I was unaware when I went to see this that it was a full on musical (probably should have guessed), and I am not a big fan of musicals. I am also very judgey when it comes to remakes or new installments of my all time favorite classics. I would have eaten my words on this one, it was amazing. If you are a fan of the Wonka universe you have *got* to go see this, preferably in the theatre. I rarely recommend that anyone spend their time and money like this, but I promise it’s warranted. If you don’t care about Wonka but you like musicals, go see this. If you don’t like Wonka and you also don’t like musicals, go see this. We laughed *so hard* watching this sparkly gem of a film. With a seriously brilliant cast, excellent musical numbers, and spectacular visuals, honestly I feel no one could have a bad time here. **PLEASE do yourself a favor, escape this world for a while and GO SEE THIS**"

"It was enjoyable and the music in the film was tolerable. I was hearing that this film is nothing like the actual character of Willy Wonka, but honestly this movie is good and the character is great on their own so if you’re interested you should check it out. "
