Tracy Flick is running unopposed for this year’s high school student election. But Jim McAllister has a different plan. Partly to establish a more democratic election, and partly to satisfy some deep personal anger toward Tracy, Jim talks football player Paul Metzler to run for president as well.

"This is nothing short of an incredible film! While this film follows 2 very unlikeable characters (a teacher and a student) in a high school, what really stands out here is how extremely well written the characters are, showing both of them in all their complexities. A phenomenal screenplay (easily the film’s MVP) paired with fantastic performances by the 2 leads (Matthew Broderick and a perfectly cast Reese Witherspoon), with Reese in particular standing out in a star-making performance (I’m not surprised at the level of success she has had in her career based on this), and I’m kind of shocked she didn’t get an Oscar nomination for this, which would’ve been really well deserved IMO. Special mention to the late Jessica Campbell as Tammy Metzler as well. Alexander Payne has been consistently great in not only directing great character-driven dramedies (of which this undoubtedly is one as well, albeit with stronger comedic touches here), but also extracts great performances from his actors, be it this one to ABOUT SCHMIDT, from THE HOLDOVERS and THE DESCENDANTS among others. Very highly worth recommending."

"This is a great dark comedy. I hadn't seen it in years and was surprised by the many twists the story takes. It's darker than I remember but so good. Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Broderick are great but shout-out to Chris Klein for his hilarious portrayal as an upbeat optimistic jock. Definitely worth checking out. "
