From the author of New York Times bestseller House of Hollow comes a darkly seductive witchy thriller where, though both men and demons lurk in shadows, girls refuse to go quietly into the night.Zara Jones believes in magic because the alternative is too painful to bear—that her sister was murdered by a serial killer and there is precisely nothing she can do to change it. If there’s anything Zara cannot stand it's feeling powerless, so she decides she will do whatever it takes—even if that means partaking in the occult—to bring her sister back from the dead.Jude Wolf might be the daughter of a billionaire, but she is also undeniably cursed. After a deal with a demon went horribly wrong, her soul is now slowly turning necrotic. Flowers and insects die in her wake and monstrous things come to taunt her at night. If Jude can’t find the right someone to fix her mistake, she fears she’ll die very soon.Enter Emer Bryne: the solution to both Zara and Jude's predicaments. The daughter of a witch, Emer sells spells to women in desperate situations willing to sacrifice a part of their soul in exchange for a bit of power, a bit of magic to change their lives. But Emer has a dark past all her own—and as her former clients are murdered one-by-one, she knows it’s followed her all the way to London. As Zara and Jude enter Emer's orbit, they'll have to team up to stop the killer—before they each end up next on his list.

"The Invocations by Krystal Sutherland<br/><br/>Zara and her sister were abandoned at a young age and on their own when the elderly woman who took them in passed away. A year ago, Zara came home to find her sister murdered. Since then, she has made it a mission to learn all she could about magic so she can speak to her one last time. <br/><br/>Jude is the daughter of a well known billionaire, but was shunned by him and the family and banned from their home. She craved attention from her father and instead of making him adore her, she placed curses on herself and is no longer welcome. She is desperate to rid herself of the curses so she can be with her family once again. <br/><br/>Emer is the youngest daughter of a witch who was murdered along with the rest of her family in Ireland when she was little. She was hiding in a tree and watched men swarm her home and kill everyone in it and bury them on the property. Now living in London, she made it her mission to give women the power to save themselves with spells of protection. <br/><br/>This thriller is about three young women from very different backgrounds who are brought together inevitably for the same reason. To hunt a murderer. <br/><br/><b>“Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live”</b><br/><br/>I enjoyed this book. Each character had a different backstory, but all ended up unpleasant regardless of how they were raised. All three are effected by a murderer on the loose, and they need to find out who it is before they kill again. The scenes were described well and I found I could picture the setting as it was explained in the story. If you like creepy things, this has that but to me it’s not too bad. <br/>"
"I know I should’ve waited until spooky season to read this since it’s horror, but even though I read this in August, this was simply one of the best YA horror novels I read. I was immediately hooked with the prologue, and it just got better from there. So many twists and plenty of witch action and cool paranormal magic- but also a LOT of blood. This isn’t an exaggeration, there’s a huge amount of blood sacrifices and gore, so you’ve been warned. Zara, Jude, and Emer made a perfect team and they all had really unique characters and backstories. Also, they were just strong female characters in general. The side characters were also fun (excluding the obvious jerks.) And the climax was chaotic but also so shocking and well written. Now I really want to go read House of Hollow by the same author, because this book was just perfect. This is a must read for anyone wanting a shocking horror story with plenty of magic and strong female characters. "
"The book started great, but slowly unraveled into an eye rolling mess. Rounding up to 3 stars, but only out of love for the author’s previous work."
