Ira Levin
The internationally bestselling novel by the author of A Kiss Before Dying, The Boys from Brazil, and Rosemary's BabyWith an Introduction by Peter StraubFor Joanna, her husband, Walter, and their children, the move to beautiful Stepford seems almost too good to be true. It is. For behind the town's idyllic facade lies a terrible secret -- a secret so shattering that no one who encounters it will ever be the same.At once a masterpiece of psychological suspense and a savage commentary on a media-driven society that values the pursuit of youth and beauty at all costs, The Stepford Wives is a novel so frightening in its final implications that the title itself has earned a place in the American lexicon.

""They never stop, these Stepford wives."<br/><br/>This was a 3.5⭐. It was a bit of a slow burn, and then just kind of ended abruptly without much explanation. It was short and quick, though, and enjoyable enough. I just feel a little underwhelmed by it as a whole, but I appreciate the messages. If you're looking for a book about how ******* stupid men are, pick up this one."

"Reminds me of Virgin Suicides. In the same vein of white feminism novels written by men, which some have read as exploitative. Personally, I didn't feel that way. Joanne is a fully developed character, a good wife and mom, and a talented photographer. Without spoiling anything (if you don't already know the plot), you're really left wondering what more people in her life could possibly want from her. Definitely places the blame for men's fears about women's rights squarely on the men's shoulders. I feel like there's a half-assed attempt to be racially inclusive, but I think it'd be better if it included commentary on how white feminism isn't always racially inclusive. It just felt weak, and was probably the least well-considered element, in my opinion. "

"Read this in one sitting! Couldn't put it down. Even though I saw the movie when it came out I still was engaged and genuinely wondering what is going on!? "

"An easy-to-read and deceptive little tale, The Stepford Wives is all about what's going on beneath the surface. A little ridiculous at times, but Levin writes women well and anyone with loved ones will feel the steely chill at the heart of The Stepford Wives."

"This is a fantastic little mystery with a eerie end. I’d you’re not careful, you’ll finish it in one sitting. "

"Very easy and short read. I was a little disappointed in the ending because I think I expected it throughout the entire second half of the book. Johanna's skepticism and effort to be different from the other wives was just too good to be true. However, the book doesn't seem to be resolved very well."

"Reads much like watching Rosemary's Baby, so I assume that would also be a fun read. Very quick, with a skillful buildup of suspense."
