"A really gripping film! This is not entirely dissimilar to the recent film CIVIL WAR in the sense of showing a hypothetical scenario, although in this case it focuses on the unfolding of a military coup of the U.S. government due to opposition of nuclear arms disarmament treaty signed by the President (this film released during the peak of the Cold War and right after the Cuban missile crisis). This film is a shockingly relevant and truly terrifying cautionary tale that highlights the importance of systems of checks and balances, and makes for a remarkably effective storytelling through the use of the thriller genre. Fantastic script and acting with a stellar ensemble cast (Frederic March, Kirk Douglas, Edmund O’Brien (who actually got nominated for this film), and Burt Lancaster MVP, with a memorable appearance by Ava Gardner), along with editing. This is a film that deserves wider public attention."

"Heads up, they have armed troops. Will they all follow the most recently elected civilians? "
