"This is a fun movie, especially if you are a fan of Christina Aguilera. I watched the film for Cher. It is a film with gaudy stage dancing, innuendo, and sexy performances; true burlesque. The cast is okay for this material, and the music is great."

"3.5⭐️? What kind of g-string theory glitterverse did I land in this time? Wholesome burlesque club, a sweet as apple pie Christina Aguilera and … Kristen Bell as the btchy conniving diva?
This movie came out to scathing reviews when released in 2010. Honestly though .. it’s not all that bad and even a pretty fun time overall. Derivative as all get out, yes, and totally supercheesyfragilisticexpialibodacious. Just think of it as an amalgam of Cabaret, Chicago and Rock of Ages but not as good, plus some Showgirls maybe and every midwest farmgirl comes to LA to become a S✨T✨A✨R cliche. The musical numbers sprinkled heavily throughout, some showy Julianne Hough level dancing (because shockingly, yes she plays a dancer!) and lightly risqué in all the right ways costumes, all borrowed from it’s predecessors. I didn’t mind.
But did I mention CHER? Snarky badass Cher?! I came for more of THAT Cher and got it. Only she’s snarky badass SINGING Cher! She’s as charismatic as always and I wish there was more of her incredible voice in this. But we do get a ton of Christina’s extraordinary pipes. So she’s not the best actor in the world, so what? She’s not exactly terrible either. Christina delivered what she needed to and, as not a huge fan, I didn’t mind her in the role either.
Also, I really have to point out an egregious example of a perfectly cast actor in what is THE most underused part ever ~ Alan Cumming. He would’ve added much to the authentic campiness that is true burlesque if he was just, well .. IN it! A pity.
At the end of the day this movie is mostly clean silly fun, not nearly as crass as I thought it would be and a general good time. Will it stay with me over the years, or even tomorrow? Might I ever feel the need to put it on again? Probably not. But have absolutely no regrets spending time in the least sordid fictional burlesque world that ever shimmied. Or hip popped. Or bumped and grinded. "
