"Revolving around a family's decision to not tell their mother/grandmother she has cancer, this movie highlights the different mindsets traditionally found in the east vs the west, and in doing so also reveals that opposites aren't always right vs wrong, sometimes they're just different. Not to say this is the main message, but it was the big takeaway for me, and a big reason for me recommending this movie. It's currently available to watch on Tubi (which is free!) Also, it's mostly in Mandarin Chinese, so you may need to rely on the provided subtitles. 9/10, :)"

"The acting was wonderful but the story was extremely depressing and I would not call it entertaining. Then at the end for some reason they Showed the photo of the woman I’m assuming the movie was made about or inspired by and how she’s still alive, I’m not sure if the woman who wrote the story is trying to say that the Chinese way of not telling people they have cancer is better, And whether she truly believes not telling them makes them live longer? It was a very odd move to do that with no explanation. And poor Awkwafina’s character has some serious childhood trauma that nobody wants to or will acknowledge. This is just an extremely depressing movie that doesn’t seem to have a clear purpose no matter how good the acting. How this got labeled comedy is beyond me"
