The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

"This is a strange movie. The pacing is off, our main character gets knocked out and isn't present for the climax, and character decisions seem to change for almost no reason. It feels like this and The Battle Of Five Armies could be condensed into same movie and it would be a better movie. "

"When I saw this in theaters, I hated it so much I refused to waste money on the third. The CGI sucked. I couldn’t invest interest in the characters enough. The plot line dragged. During the covid shutdowns, I binged the entire LOTR series and figured I’d throw these in for good measure (and because I was bored). I don’t know if it was delusion or the sense of nostalgia, but I enjoyed this one so much more than I did the first time around. I even liked it enough to commit to watching the third. "

The pace is a bit faster than part 1, but there's no improvement on the script nor the dialogue between characters as they're still the rowdy, combative little hot heads in pursuit of the Arkenstone, and reclaiming their fallen kingdom from the dragon. Everyone is constantly at each others' throats or disregarding the other if they're not from their town or kingdom. The flow of the movie is similar to part 1, yet we get a clear understanding that those around see this as a fruitless "
