"I can appreciate that this movie is an amazing visual achievement for being made well over 50 years ago... BUT... It is tediously boring. I've only seen it once and can't bring myself to watch it again. I remember waiting for something to happen and it never really does. Many people gush over this movie, I just don't see it. 5/10 for me."
"Honestly, I just watched this for the first time. I don't know what I was expecting, but it was not that. Sure, I guess I can see why it was classic for its "artistry" and innovative imagery of space at the time. But damn, I did not like it, not even a little bit. Several 5+ min of a black screen with only classical music playing. Who needs a built-in intermission in a big screen movie? And I'm pretty sure you have to be on acid for the ending. Reminded me of the book trilogy "Spin" by Robert Charles Wilson. Over-conceptualized idea of multi-dimensional extra-terrestrial life. Glad I'm done watching it so I never have to do it again. "
"I don't know how I've never seen this movie before now, but I'm glad I finally got around to it. It was tediously boring, but even the boring parts were interesting. I get why it's considered a masterpiece. It has some of the most stunning visuals I've ever seen in a movie. You can tell how much backbreaking work, care, and effort was put into every second of this film, every minute detail. HAL was probably my favorite part. I can see how this movie has continued to influence and inspire generations of sci-fi and space movies, even the spoofs and jokes that come from it. Makes me appreciate the whole genre even more than before. "
"This movie is incredible considering this movie was made in 1968. The fact that you look at the modern technology we have nowadays and how spot on in certain areas this film was insanity. There was no such thing as Apple or Microsoft during when this movie was being made which really makes you reflects on how much creativity went into this and obviously if you are a true movie need you need to watch this especially for the visuals and techniques used"
