Juno - Likewise Movie Reviews
"I wish teenage pregnancy was like this. Accepting parents, supportive partner, good potential adoptive parents... I witnessed the worst of situations with this all around me at this girl's age. Many friends ended up in my arms crying at 3am because of this very situation. It's a cute movie but it's definitely best case scenario. "
"This movie can still feel pretty fresh even watching it now I mean obviously the writing is somewhat dated but I still enjoy watching it from time to time. It’s overall heartwarming with some honest and earnest things it would like to say about teen pregnancy and how people treat the girl in that situation. Also Jason Bateman character is a creep getting a little to close to a teenager. "

"A rewatch. Some issues aside, this is a well executed (and well-paced) film overall that tackles a rather sensitive subject matter (teenage pregnancy) in a really humorous way. I was especially struck by the tonal balancing act this film achieves in exploring this subject matter and never once feel manipulative. Hands down the direction by Jason Reitman, the performances (especially by Elliott Page, Olivia Thirlby, Michael Cera, Jennifer Garner, J. K. Simmons, and Allison Janney (really hilarious to see the latter two play such loving and supportive parents while their Oscar wins that came later came for playing abusive people)), and screenplay by Diablo Cody easily stand out. Granted there’s a subplot involving the Jason Bateman character that is frankly very uncomfortable (I think it could’ve done without that), but I’m kind of glad it didn’t go too far on that front. Despite this hiccup, a fantastic film overall and worth watching too.
I especially find it hilarious that this was the only film with a comedic tone to ever be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars that year, especially considering both the subject matter as well as the fact that the other 4 nominees that year were ALL serious dramas (NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, THERE WILL BE BLOOD, ATONEMENT, and MICHAEL CLAYTON were the other 4 nominees, with the former winning that year). That year’s Oscar host (Jon Stewart) famously pointed his hilarious fact out in his monologue too.
P.S.: Jason Reitman was the executive producer of WHIPLASH, and that connection helped JK Simmons be cast in that film and the rest is history."
"it’s an indie movie for sure. Also what is up with Jason Bateman’s character?
I wasn’t crazy about Juno as a character or her boyfriend, I felt like they were very confused throughout the whole movie about each other. But then o bc e she confessed feelings he admitted to feeling the same way. I mean maybe I just saw it differently. Lowkey wished she kept the baby "

"One of my favorite pregnancy movies about a baby. Definitely top three. Love Ellen and Michael’s performance as for the supporting cast. Funny and overall wholesome "

"It was refreshingly different from a lot of movies. I really liked that they talked openly about abortion as an option which is dates it pretty strongly since abortion access is difficult to impossible for most of America now, and at risk where it’s currently legal."
"This movie is quirky, funny, awkward, sad, happy and emotional all neatly tied together in a main character who is a pregnant teen girl. Wonderful storyline of how she deals with her pregnancy and how her family copes with her situation all at the same time. bonus- great soundtrack "

"i honestly really like juno, i didn’t like the relationship with her and mark at all. it felt very predatory and odd. other than that this movie has one of my favourite sound tracks and i love juno and bleeker’s relationship 🩷 it doesn’t depict real teen pregnancies but it’s a cute little fairytale "

"Wholesome movie, though the overall message was outdated for me. Even so, I found the ending somewhat charming but I found the husband character a bit creepy."
